2004 Haunted House Credits
The heart and soul of the haunted house; the committee — led by the chairman — coordinate every aspect of our haunted house: finances and budget, obtaining permits, camp cleanup, construction, finding and purchasing needed construction supplies and props, makeup, cleaning, painting, ensuring the bodies will never be found, publicity, graphics, web design, manpower, moose research, concessions, landscaping, plumbing, electrical, ticket sales, and about a bazillion other logistic concerns.
Each committee member is responsible for a specific area of our haunt, and several of these areas (for example, publicity) require sub-committees to get all the work done! Reading this roster, you can appreciate what a massive undertaking our Haunted House really is. We’re very proud of our 2004 committee and the impressive haunted house they have produced.

Guides: There’s a friendly Jaycee rivalry at the camp every year: Who is more important to the Haunted House–Guides or Rooms? (By the way, it’s guides). Guide teams gather at the head of the patron line and take a group of about 10 people on the walking tour through the Haunt. Each group has a front and rear guide. The guides’ jobs are to keep order, escort anyone out who may require it (for example, a frightened child, someone with a medical problem), get help if necessary, keep the show moving, and most importantly, entertain and scare you as they tell the story behind this year’s haunted house as they guide you through your journey. Guides go through “Guide training,” originated by Jaycee Bob Webster, and review safety procedures, where the fire extinguishers are, crowd control (sometimes 1000 people a night) and what to do for various types of situations or emergencies. It’s not just putting on a costume and dragging a group along – being a guide is hard work and not everyone is cut out to do it. Taking charge of the group is paramount. On a busy night, or when we are understaffed, a guide may make 8-12 trips through the house. Guides rule!

Rooms / Walk-Byes: There’s a friendly Jaycee rivalry at the camp every year: Who is more important to the Haunted House–Guides or Rooms? (By the way, it’s rooms). The brave souls who create a cabin or walk by (a room) will spend two months in construction. They’ll plan a room – its floor plan, walls, gags, electrical needs, etc. Next, they gut the existing structure, frame the walls, install sheet rock, and design the layout of the room. They will electrify, paint, decorate, wire speakers, shop for and create props, and prepare a script for their scare. It is a lengthy process involving many late nights and hard work. In October, the room people will give about 1000 performances of their scare. Rooms rule!
